CS dept backup server download and configuration
How to install:
To install, enter in your details below, you will be prompted to download a .zip file containing the installer and your configuration files. Extract the
installer to a directory of your choice and run install.bat as administrator. This script will run the standard Bacula installer for your
OS and install your configuration files, encryption keys, and a few helpful scripts.
Windows Vista and Windows 7 users:
- The installer needs to be run as Administrator or it cannot access folders that configuration files need to be in.
- This installer is for 64-bit versions only. It has not been tested on 32-bit versions of these operating systems.
Windows 10 users:
- Still somewhat exerimental as Win10 bat files do not propagate administrative privileges
- Installation:
- Unzip the downloaded package
- Find the proper installer for your system in the #### folder and run it as administrator
- Then run the install.bat script as administrator
- Send an email to support@cs.ndsu.edu with the subject New Bacula install and the NDSU ID of the computer in the body.
- This installer is for 64-bit versions only. It has not been tested on 32-bit versions because as of January 2015 only 7.2% (TweekTown 2015) of all Microsoft updates go to 32-bit machines and I know of none in the department.
Notes on files/folders to be backed up
Not all files/folders are backed up by default!
Most files/folders are backed up, like your Documents folder, and other non-system folders on the C: drive.
The 'Program Files' folder IS
NOT backed up by default, applications should no longer be saving data to this folder.
If you have a need to back up a subfolder of 'Program Files',
then you need to contact the CS Department Systems Administrator with the folders you want backed up.
Please note that only non-system files/folders on your C: drive are backed up by default. If you need
other drives folders backed up, send an email to the CS Department Systems Administrator with a list of files and folders to
be backed up.
